Enjoy the hearth of the ardennes

During your stay, explore the rich and varied surroundings of the Belgian Ardennes. Just a short drive from the château, you’ll find charming towns, outdoor adventures, cultural sites and local flavours waiting to be discovered.

To the north (15 km), visit Durbuyoften called the smallest city in the world — with its picturesque cobbled streets, artisan shops and historic centre. Wander the Old Town, take a ride on the tourist mini-train, or enjoy outdoor fun at Adventure Valley, one of Belgium’s largest adventure parks with zip lines, tree climbing and more. The Topiary Park (garden of sculpted bushes) and kayaking along the River Ourthe are other great options.
To the south (15 km) lies La Roche-en-Ardenne, often described as the “gem of the Ardennes.” This charming town on the banks of the Ourthe offers a rich blend of cultural heritage and outdoor activities. Explore the ruins of the feudal castle with panoramic views over the valley, stroll local markets and artisan shops, or savour regional specialties like Ardennes ham, “baisers de La Roche” (meringue biscuits) and Purnalet liqueur. For nature lovers, there are numerous hiking and cycling routes, water sports on the river, and even kayaking and rafting for those seeking adventure.
If you prefer to lose yourself for long hours in the countryside, head into the Parc Naturel des Deux Ourthes, a protected natural park covering vast forests, river valleys and diverse landscapes — ideal for hiking, wildlife watching and peaceful picnics.
For families and history lovers alike, don’t miss a visit to Wéris and its Museum of Megaliths, where you can learn about ancient Neolithic sites, dolmens and prehistoric life unique to this region.
Back at the château itself, adventure continues with a ride on the Val de l’Aise tram — a charming historic tramway that delights children and adults alike, taking you through the scenic countryside right from the château gates.
Whether you wander through medieval villages, paddle on winding rivers, hike forest trails, or simply enjoy a drink on a sun-lit terrace, the Belgian Ardennes offer countless unforgettable experiences just moments from the Château de Blier.
